our story

Rachel West

Three years ago at the age of 36, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was definitely one of the worse things that had happened to me, but it was also one of the best things that happened to me as well. It was a turning point in my life, where I have had the opportunity to see life through different eyes and do something that I really believe in!

Since I finished treatment, I took up running and completed two half marathons, I would think to myself, “I’ve had cancer, I can do anything!”

In 2007, Lisa Sewards and I launched the annual Pink Lady Art Exhibition and Charity Event. In 2008, I launched the Make Breast Cancer History gala evening.

On Australia Day 2009, we were awarded, “Community Events of the Year“, which was very exciting and shows what a positive impact these events can have on our community.

I’ve also been invited to become a Speakers’ Bureau Ambassador, for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. My biggest and most privileged challenge this year will be giving the introduction to the 1 minute silence in front of 20,000 people at the Mother’s Day Classic in May.

Together with other young mums, we have formed the Make Breast Cancer History committee, and we are all working towards a common goal, to Make Breast Cancer History!

Sharon Logan

I was honoured to be invited by Rachel West to join the Make Breast Cancer History Committee. With my daughter Tara starting Prep this year and my son Cade in Grade 3 I suddenly found I had more time on my hands.

I hadn’t really decided what I was going to do with my time but I wanted to use the skills I had gained from the work I had done in event sponsorship and marketing for the Melbourne and Perth International Arts Festivals as well as in health promotion with the Health Department of Western Australia promoting the Quit and Respect Yourself! Drinksafe messages.

I was looking to work with people and a cause that really inspired me. I was lucky to have met Rachel early this year. She is truly a courageous and inspirational woman and I am thrilled to be working with her and our team to help Make Breast Cancer History!

Wendy Hamson

Wendy is a young Brighton mum with 3 small boys. With her IT Sales career on hold to raise her children, Wendy jumped at the opportunity to join the Make Breast Cancer History committee. “Seeing what Rachel went through to beat the disease really brought home how fragile life can be. It’s easy to become a victim; but Rachel turned such a terrible scare into something so amazingly positive and inspiring. How could I NOT be involved????”

Tiffany Fuller

Tiffany is married and is a mother of two boys, Jordan 6 and Oliver 4. “In recent times, the lives of a number of my family members and friends have been touched by cancer. Witnessing the impact and intrusion of the disease of people’s lives first hand, together with the incredible courage, determination and strength of those who’ve fought the battle, is a key motivation behind my desire to become involved. Rachel West is a very old and dear friend and anything I can do so help her cause and those of others to cure cancer is worthwhile. In the end it helps all of us. ” My interests in charity have spanned many years with experience in corporate philanthropy and involvement in the Lord Mayors Charitable Fund as a member of the Grants Committee. I am a qualified Chartered Accountant and have had a twenty year career in Consulting, Corporate Finance, Investment Banking and Private Equity.
